Powering a Sustainable Future through Renewable Energy: CETIN Bulgaria Goes Green
Introduction
CETIN Bulgaria, in collaboration with Yettel Bulgaria, has taken a major step toward sustainability by signing a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Elektrohold for the supply of electricity from renewable sources. The energy will be generated by a 123 MW photovoltaic plant, expected to be operational in spring 2023. Elektrohold Trade, a leading energy trader within the Electrohold Group (part of Eurohold—the largest public holding company in Bulgaria), manages the purchase and delivery process.
Business Challenge
As one of the largest network infrastructure operators in the region, CETIN Bulgaria faces the growing challenge of reducing its carbon footprint while maintaining reliable network operations. Electricity consumption is one of the main sources of emissions in the telecom industry, making the shift to renewable energy a key step in CETIN’s and Yettel’s decarbonization journey.
Solution
In line with the PPF Telecom Group’s Sustainability Strategy and its commitment to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), CETIN Bulgaria and Yettel Bulgaria have implemented a long-term green energy partnership with Elektrohold. The agreement ensures that electricity used to power CETIN’s and Yettel’s networks comes from renewable sources, supporting a more sustainable and resilient energy model for the future.
Impact and Results
This agreement represents a milestone in the companies’ decarbonization programs, setting an example for responsible business practices within the telecom sector. The partnership guarantees stable energy pricing for CETIN and Yettel, while providing investors and creditors with predictable returns. Most importantly, it enables significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to Bulgaria’s broader green transition.
Leadership Perspective
“This landmark deal is an important milestone in our partnership with Electrohold and a huge step towards reducing our environmental footprint. We hope that with this project we become a role model when it comes to doing business in a modern and sustainable way,”
— Petar Mudrinich, CEO of CETIN Bulgaria
