Expanding Bulgaria’s Digital Future with Large-Scale Fiber Deployment

CETIN Bulgaria, part of CETIN International, is playing a key role in one of the country’s most ambitious connectivity initiatives — the Large-Scale Deployment of Digital Infrastructure in the Territory of Bulgaria.

This landmark project aims to deliver high-speed broadband access to more than 200 rural settlements across over 140 municipalities, bridging the digital divide and ensuring that people and businesses in remote areas gain the same opportunities as those in major cities.

The Challenge

Despite Bulgaria’s rapid progress in digitalisation, many rural communities still face limited access to fast and reliable internet. Without robust infrastructure, economic growth, education, and innovation remain constrained. The national goal is clear — to make digital inclusion a reality for everyone.

The CETIN Solution

As a key implementation partner in this public–private partnership, CETIN Bulgaria will design, build, and deploy the infrastructure needed to connect underserved areas and strengthen the national digital backbone.

The project includes:

  • Building thousands of kilometres of new optical fibre network
  • Connecting at least 700 mobile base stations across Bulgaria
  • Delivering high-speed connectivity to over 200 rural settlements in 140+ municipalities
  • Expanding the country’s capacity for future 5G and fixed broadband growth

This is not just an infrastructure project — it is a long-term investment in economic development, education, and equal digital access for Bulgaria’s citizens.

The Impact

The initiative will significantly extend Bulgaria’s broadband footprint, improve mobile coverage, and prepare the country for next-generation services. By enabling digital inclusion at scale, CETIN is helping communities unlock new opportunities for business, learning, and innovation.

Partnership and Funding

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Recovery and Resilience Facility – NextGenerationEU, and represents an example of successful collaboration between the public and private sectors to deliver on Europe’s digital ambitions.

“This project reflects CETIN’s long-term commitment to supporting inclusive connectivity and creating a sustainable digital future for Bulgaria,” said the CETIN Bulgaria team.
